Why "evading solaris"?

We only come out at night... hiding (evading) from the sun (Solaris). Actually that's not true, we do venture out in the daytime in festival season!

EMO, ROCK, ALT AND NU-METAL

EVading solaris

We are a female-fronted live cover band playing high energy anthems in and around the Surrey and Sussex area. Think MTV/Kerrang style songs from epic bands who really know how to get you moving. We try and pick the best songs from the best artists and cover a range of genres, adapted to our audience to ensure everyone has a great time. We also want to be a bit different from the other bands out there on the circuit… so absolutely no Bon Jovi or American Pie – and if you like it heavy towards the end of the night, so do we!

 Come and check us out!

We are always looking for new Venues

E-mail or message us on facebook....

If you want to know a bit more

about us...

Neonatal Consultant by day and singer by night, Donna spends most of her rehearsals lowering the mic stand to her diminutive height, and turning dials on the mixing desk in a futile attempt to be heard over the rest of the band. At which point the horrendous feedback created empties the room in seconds. She is also an artist in her spare time and is responsible for the band’s logos,  graphics and stupidly enormous backdrop -dimensions and measurements are definitely not her strong point. Neither is punctuality…

Dedicated to single handedly keeping Andertons in Guildford solvent with his ever expanding collection of guitars, pedals and guitar-related gadgets, Ali is never far away from his trusted Orange Amp and can usually be found experimenting to discover which combination of settings can make the loudest possible noise. Superpowers include rearranging pedal boards, labelling absolutely everything in orange, networking, and booking rehearsal rooms (only for everyone else to suddenly be unavailable). However he does have an occasional issue with forgetting to turn off the System of A Down setting on the pedal board (making his rendition of happy birthday rather memorable at one gig!) and an inability to stick with the same pedal board layout for longer than 1 week at a time. Ali is the chief organiser of all things band-related and sorts out all the gigs… which involves visiting (and drinking) in a lot of pubs in the name of research. This also explains the occasional strange 3am Facebook post…

Plays Bass. That’s all he gave us to include for this bio. He sits around a lot in rehearsals, looking cool in the corner. With his bass. He also has a pedal board, but unlike Ali’s, the buttons seem to stay in the same place from week to week.  He’s also been known to create the odd 3am Facebook video and as such,  has now been banned from using the word “moist” for any reason. Jono is our chief T-shirt and Merchandise officer, following the discovery that he is absolutely obsessed with the quality of printed T-shirts…

Azlan is our mental heavy-metal obsessed madman, who chooses to do strange things like cycle across the British Isles for charity. Ok, he did end up finishing at the Download Festival, so there is a happy ending to the story. He can also be found in the House Band at Bumbles Open Mic nights, and has almost as many pedals as Ali. Almost. He is the latest person to join the band so is missing from some of our earlier photos – we’re not leaving him off camera on purpose!

Will is our amazing drummer who can somehow produce more noise than Ali (we haven’t quite worked out how this is possible, but Will somehow manages it). He is known for pulling stupid faces whilst drumming; and his impressive knowledge of awful jokes – mainly involving cabbages and elephants. He spends most of his time (whilst not drumming) playing practical jokes, winding up Donna, and entertaining us with tales of his youth whilst pretending to be old and decrepit.

General FAQ's

questions?

Search for Evading Solaris / @evadingsolaris and like or follow us for more information on events and gigs, drunken 3am nonsense,  cool photos and other content straight into your newsfeed. We’re on both Facebook and Instagram.

We go through a long process of debate, suggestion, vetoing, re-suggesting, argument, trying stuff out individually to see if it is possible, one person forgets to learn it, and eventually we get it to a rehearsal room to discover there are several versions and we’ve all learnt a different one.

Generally we choose a song based on the following factors:

1.       Must be a great song

2.       Donna must be able to sing it

3.       It must be possible for Ali to cover all the guitar, piano, violin and other instruments by himself. On 1 guitar. Somehow. Preferably without the need for another pedal. Or with another pedal, that’s fine, he’ll just buy a bigger pedal board.

4.       Must be a great song.  Yes, it’s so important we included it twice..

Trev was our drummer at the start of this adventure with Ali and Donna, first with a band called “No Status” and then Evading Solaris. We were very sad to see him go – but you can still find him playing in Surrey with his original band – the amazing Apache Rose – www.apacherose.uk – Thank-you Trev for all your advice, experience and general awesomeness!

We do! After a very in depth period of research into the best quality T-shirts and printing, we are proud to have our very own Merch! Come to a gig and pick up the coolest T-shirt in town. It even has a skull on it. You know you want to….

We cover lots of bands from the 90s onwards – think classics from Nirvana and Muse, punk rock from Blink 182 and Green Day, Nu metal including LInkin Park and Evanescence; to heavier stuff by System of a Down and Korn.

Just don’t ask. Or ask Will. He’ll tell you, but you’re likely to get a joke or 2 thrown in as well… depends if you’re willing to take the risk.
